Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman (Raju Became a Gentleman) is a double first date. It is Shah Rukh Khan's first film with frequent co-star Juhi Chawla (Renu), and was also his big screen debut, so his "first date" with the film audience. The screen shot is from the first musical number, a rousing post-graduation celebration of new beginnings by Raj and his friends as he heads off to Bombay (now Mumbai) to seek his fortune. Right in the middle of the song, Shah Rukh Khan finds the camera and looks right into it, flashing his charming dimples. Boom! Got my attention. |
I will post the rest of my reaction within a day or so, to give fellow-watchers a chance to see the film (available on Einsthusan for free, and ad-free for a very reasonable one-time payment). Questions to ponder: What is your first impression of Raj? What is Renu's first impression? How would you describe their chemistry over the course of the film? If you had a first date with Raj, would you go on a second? Feel free to add your own questions, of course!
